句義要的一定是後者，If it were to do so能夠明確表達嗎?

大家一定是沒抓住那個關鍵字啦

否定詞 --little polar ice melts during the summer 應解成極冰
幾乎不會融化
大家一定是把little當成形容詞來看 而忽略它否定地位了
就解成有些極冰會融化...
我不覺得這邊融化不融化會發生問題阿??
otherwise假設語氣也沒問題阿
至於那個were it to do so 很清楚阿 不會造成誤意 do so當然是說do melt

這是考GMAT最重要的語感
原題Antarctica.....on Earth(行文方向為
冰是應該融化),yet(轉折語-行文方向轉變)the temperature are so cold.....during the summer(行文方向轉為
冰不會融化); otherwise否則(另一轉折語-行文方向再轉向一次),the water....would rise...great cities.(行文方向為
冰大量融化)
最後一句轉折 因為沒發生/還沒發生 所以用假設語氣
所以選項後半段不管那個選項 都不發生說明不清的問題
不管怎麼寫 反正都是假設語氣 而且不是這題設計的考點
這題設計的考點很明顯 就是
so....that..../ so that 怎麼分辨
從這個考點看 (E)錯是因為 ice cap reflects
so that...冰棚
為了OOXX而去反射??? 文意不合理 而且它用動詞reflects
(C).(D)不看了 因為它結構不對 少動詞
(B) is so reflective
(因) that little polar ice melts 極冰幾乎不會融化
(果)
這個合理 結構也對
(A) is reflective, so that(表目的 翻成
為了)...
於是文意又變成跟(E)一樣不合理了 冰棚
