我的看法是
由題目可得，得到癌症的，有六成的tissue sample was discovered by virus
且60年代的小兒麻痺患者疫苗都有被conteminated
所以疫苗可說是病毒的來源

問題要找support

C頂多是不會weaken
這就是題目再唸一遍，只能說疫苗都有被病毒感染，但不能說沒有他因也會造成相同結果，也就是其他因也能造此果，無法support

但 E由反面論述，直接說沒有被汙染就不會測得病毒，那麼病毒被限制為唯一因，當然能support

Fact 2:

Conclusion:

可是能推得

best555tw, 我覺得這是support題型 & conclusion 題型的差異點.

You are quite right that:

1. 沒有污染-------->沒有包含SV40
不一定能推得
2. 有污染就會包含SV40嗎

但是這道題目問的是support, 只需要條件1成立就起到support的作用了,
接下來條件2: 那麼有污染會包含SV40嗎? 是屬於進一步的邏輯演繹
假如題目問的是what can be reasonably concluded, 就需要討論條件2了...

確實項你講的依樣這題不是conclusion

而且題目問的是:當時的病毒導致現在的癌症

所以現在發現1960的樣品裡面有病毒
並不能證明
現在的癌症就是當時的病毒所引起的

so E is the best answer

那既然這提示要考support 研究者的理論,應該是重點要放在學者理論設定的時間焦點裡

paige很細心喔! 看到了一些大家沒有留意到的問題...

我按照paige給的思路去重新思考這道題目, 我的想法是:

題目給出的思路是:
1. M這種癌症的主因是SV40 (題目第一句恕省略) -->
2. SV40雖然是monkey virus, 但由於1960年某些polio vaccine被SV40感染到, 因此注射這種疫苗會把病毒帶到人體中 (這是題目寫 "SV40 is a monkey virus; however, in 1960 some polio vaccine was contaminated with the virus."這句話的主要用意) -->
3. Researchers上述兩點得出假設: 即SV40--> Mesotheliomas

現在再回頭看選項C, 其實只是rephrase上述第2點, 因此並沒有起到support的作用...

至於你提到的選項E擴大範圍之嫌, 我想這題用荷蘭的狀況 + 美國的狀況一起來證明題目一開始的 "researchers believe that infection by the SV40 virus is a contributing cause", 反倒更有力的証明了其假設是 "放諸四海而皆準"...

我投E一票...
C不選的原因在於純粹說明vaccine目前仍有virus trace,但怎麼證明或符合研究者假設"cancer中的SV40是來自vaccine"則無法推論...

E選項講得即是對照組的概念...在別地區(芬蘭)的vaccine沒有被感染到virus,那麼其cancer就找不到該virus...所以單純以這題的實驗設計來看,就是以"vaccine是否有被感染"為實驗因素!!

如果說researchers believe that infection by the SV40 virus is a contributing cause.是題目的論述起始，
那麼...我覺得(E)只是在vaccine沒有被感染到virus打轉，只能說它阻斷了vaccine是virus的來源(回到asbestos上)；而其中samples from mesotheliomas do not contain SV40.甚至可以說是跑到weaken去了~
而且，我贊成paige的說法。support時，樣本要廣泛週延有代表性，Finland太限縮了。

回到(C)，正因為論述之始是說researchers believe that infection by the SV40 virus is a contributing cause.，這是題目拉出的因果之線。題目只給到1960 some polio vaccine was contaminated with the virus. (C)是把some範圍拉大，再用still把時間拉長。"最近發現的始於1960的vaccine樣本仍顯示virus的線索"這句話，是呼應題目中假設"當時的vaccine"是"後來的mesotheliomas中之virus"之源。所以算是有support到，雖說也許不夠強而有力...

支持C,
在E選中,support1960年的美國M疾病,是由於疫苗中的SV40造成,且也可得知F國的疾病是其它原因造成的,而不是SV40=>用1960年的事件來支持結論,論述,
但無法說明現在的M疾病,仍來自於疫苗,所以研究者假設在數年後疫苗仍是來源,來支持他的結論
C選說明疫苗中SV40仍存在於現在,支持了研究者所做的假設

這是我的理解,請指教~

關於這一題,我上google查詢了一下，
現實世界是存在這個問題的，我看了網路上的文章內容有提到，
為了驗證受SV40污染小兒麻痺疫苗是否為目前癌症細胞中所存在之SV40病毒來源，
科學家取得在疫苗"未受到污染"前出生病人的癌症細胞來檢驗是否皆存在SV40，
因為實際上科學家是以檢驗"未注射已污染疫苗"的病人檢體來確認疫苗是否為SV40之來源，
故似乎是支持Ｅ這個答案的。
提供補充資訊供大家做個參考。
