The answer is A...but I chose B...why is A right? "many of them in the area just for the season"...this part...it doesn't need a verb in there??

many of them 跟 many of whom的用法 不一樣 但是意思是相同的
many of whom 所接的子句 是一個完整的句子
manyof them 則要省略b動詞 作為從屬子句
A的答案 原句應該是many of them (are) in the area just for the season
省略are這個b動詞
這裡的b 後面many of whom are in the area just for the season的用法是對的
錯的是 surround不能加s 它是修飾前面green fields

就是兩個句子間的連接詞省略掉了
而因第二句與第一句主詞不相同所以主詞留下來而動詞就改成分詞
又因動詞是be動詞的關係就省略掉了??

恩.....我覺得這題應該是這樣子的看法

1. many of them VS many of whom

為什麼在這裡要選many of them而非many of whom,

是因為"whom"是受格關代,必須前面的先行詞是受詞方能使用,但這裡是要用個同位語去補充說明前面的workers,所以應該是要用many of them而不是many of whom!

但是B排除的方法也可以用版主所說的"surround不能加s 它是修飾前面的green fields",來排除

2. many of them (who are) in the area just for the season

我也不知道是省略型什麼子句,不過我覺得應該是省略了"who are"這兩個字囉!!

對於 many of them
我個人比較傾向是屬於補充說明的 同位語
這邊的 them 是跟 farmers 同位
也因為是同位語
所以不會是一個完整的句子

至於 many of whom 的用法
使用受格關代是對的 因為他是 of 的受格
但是因為關代子句需要完整子句
所以此題不可選

我個人覺得兩種用法在句意上沒有差異 (這邊請大家多多討論 我不敢確定)
都是做為補充說明之用
