這題研究了一下,所有選項都有一點俠斯:

1) Not parallel (as a result of..... and of比較好)
2) 真的太wordy了....而且 a tripling是unidomatic.
3) 除了being以外,這裡的因果關係很順.
4) Dangling (The replacement....., the average)
5) 關帶which位子也點akward

我想這題應該就是being可以用的例外題吧!

D的结构就是the replacement and several improvements, 句子。一个名词词组+一个句子，如果名词词组不是同位语的话，这样的结构是不对的，所以D不对。

E句子没有谓语。

看A。Over the course of the eighteenth century, the average output of ironwork tripled as a result of ...and because...这样的用法其实是可以接受的,就是XDF讲过的平行结构中,功能相同的部分是可以并列的,比如名词和名词性从句是可以并列的,在这里是as a result of引导的原因状语和because引导的原因状语从句的并列

B也有很多地方不好，a tripling不如tripled好；over the course of the eighteenth century,这个时间状语位于句首，应该修饰句子的谓语，在B中，修饰的就是due to，在原文中是修饰tripled这个动作的，所以改变了句子重心；后面的in addition to用来连接两个名词短语是不对的。

可是C，题目给出的答案我觉得也不好，因为看到charcoal’s being replaced 和后面的名词several improvements并列觉得也不好。

答案是A更有道理.

再頂一下...我也覺得A好，tripled as a result of...比C的 tripled over the eighteenth century好...時間副詞通常都prefer擺前面不是嗎?..不然容易有修飾不清的嫌疑....

我覺得前頭用
as a result of.......但後面沒有接..and...of的原因會不會是因為
後面的coal replaced charcoal as the fuel used in the smelting of iron ore
是一個子句 很難改成名詞的形式來接在of 之後
所以只能用because來表示原因

這樣的解釋方式行的通嗎？

One of my friends asked me to check this question. I reviewed the question and remembered that the correct answer is C. As for the question Japerlin mentioned, "being is Charcoal's object". Although Prof. Mao told you dont choose "being", but it is still obviously for us to choose C in this question.
