[問題]突然感到疑惑：何謂短期和長期？

寫essay寫著寫著，突然有一個問題......
很多學校都會問你的short-term和long-term目標為何，但是怎麼去定義這個短期和長期呢？

短期目標寫出國念MBA好像怪怪的，所以是否應該定義為Post-MBA的兩三年嗎？
所以長期目標大約是十年以上......?

不曉得我這樣的認知有沒有問題？

your short-term --- immediately following the MBA. for example, to be an employee in a multi-national company, non-profit institution, or a successor of your family business. The question is asking how do you leveage the MBA learning and what is your concentration in your MBA program.

long-term goal --- What do you want to be after 5 or 10 years or farther. for example, to be a department leader, a director who in charge of a regional business, or a CxO. The question is asking you how many resources(people, budget) you will own, and how will you use your resources to broaden your business.

就是說你本來是一個engineer, 因為你的innavation(or efficiency, endeavor), 變成一個deparment leader, 又因為你發現了其實你可以做得更好, 透過MBA的學習, 你把你部門重新re-organize, 利用公司很少的資源, 為公司賺了更多的revenue, 最後你不斷的精進及複製你成功的經驗, 因此成為公司重要的領導人. bla...bla...bla...

.... 感覺有點像是小學生寫"我的願望", 只是用更高尚的詞彙(some key words, ROI, investment, well-management, cost efficient etc), 再加上轉折語氣 and in English.

真想反問那些 admission 大大, 他們的 short-term, long-term goal 是什麼...?
他們大概會回答.. short-term ... 明天要陪我小孩去看一場棒球賽.
long-term.... 嗯, 我必須要籌一筆錢, 付我前妻的贍養費...
....
