馬桶希瑟 \$m[1]:Dear all,
Do not be discouraged by the waitlist status. There's a lot you can do during this period to improve your chances of getting into Wharton. From what I remember about you, I suggest that you do the following in the interim:
1. Strengthen your case that you can be an effective LEADER
I'm assuming that your academics, GMAT score & reference letters can all attest to your strong aptitude & work ethics, but you need to highlight to XXX that you have the potential to be an outstanding leader. Many people are capable of doing the analytical work - but what XXX wants is students with leadership potential - people who can truly lead these analytical workers. It'd be helpful to delineate your traits in this respect - that you enjoy working with others towards a common goal, how you're good at motivating everyone, how you find the process satisfying, etc.
2. Highlight your INTERNATIONAL background
The fact that you're from Taiwan is something that you should emphasize because you're adding diversity to the otherwise white male-dominated student pool. Ilustrate what you can contribute to the XXX community - eg. your people/professional network back home, cultural/social aspects, geographical proximity to & familiarity with the fast growing mainland Chinese economy, etc. At the same time, you should sugar-coat the fact that you're born/raised in Taiwan but have never really lived overseas. XXX wants candidates who can be INTERNATIONAL leaders - people who can effectively lead in a multinational corporations. You need to show that you're adaptive & open-minded enough to cherry pick from the best of each culture. If you've spent extended periods of time overseas (either as a student or lived/worked abroad) - it'd be very good to highlight the successes of these experiences.
3. State CLEARLY why XXX is your TOP choice
What I'm trying to say here is - you need to show admissions that you've done your homework on our school, including its faculty, curriculum, courses, geographical location, social aspects, etc. State which professor you'd like to have, which class, which club, etc SPECIFICALLY. Explain clearly HOW you'll get the most out of the XXX education. Always illustrate also how you can contribute back to the student community.
4. Show that you ENJOY life outside of work
It's probably difficult at this stage of our lives as we're most likely spending the majority of our time working away & proving ourselves.. but try to show a bit of personality & the more relaxed side of you in your application. XXX wants students who can contribute to its community both inside AND outside of its classrooms. Highlight what you enjoy doing outside of work. More importantly, show that you could be passionate about something else other than work!
Hope this helps. You can always submit additional reference letters or essays to improve your candidacy.
Thanks for your kindly sharing...
