toefl 257也被學校嫌低

我申請了UMass
沒意外的收到了rejection
我很不死心的去問我的weakness
原以為是at太低或其他的...
結果他居是說我的at還ok, 但toefl 257太低分...

天啊!
如果要重來一次不只at 連toefl都得重來~~~

有的人說toefl 250只是個門檻,
但對有的學校而言卻不這麼想~~~

I guess schools always have excuses to reject you. I do not think TOEFL 257 is low. They just want to find a reason to justify their decision. I have read some posts in other forums. Some top schools even reject people with GMAT 800. They will always find way to justify their decision. This is the so-called "black box". Maybe you are rejected just becasue the there is no more room for Taiwnanese, yet the shcool can not say that. So, they just pick one thing from your application and say, "We are concerned about xxx".

我有點後悔申請
因為他MBA人數很少不到40人吧
錄取率也抵-23%
真是一所不愛錢的學校
想必台灣人空間也少

I believe that there is definitely a "quota" set by the schools. Once they put students in specific pool according to their nationalities, there the quota comes.

Take Stanford for example, they just pick around 370 students per year, and you could see Taiwanese students always have 0~1 seat each year. No matter how good the pool is, they won't pick up 7 or 10 students. Not because those students rejected are not qualified, but rather the quota is just filled! Since there already are two admitted by Stanford in R1, I bet nobody would be admitted for R2. That's the reality, even you have GMAT 750 and work for 7 or 10 years in global firms.

Another story is about the gender. If you are male, just hope that God will help you. Why schools love international females? Not becasue the Asian males are nerd or boring, but rather there is a great effect if schools admit more internationl females. Schools could raise their percentage of female and international students simultaneously. "To kill two birds with one stone."

I am so surprised that you receive the rejection from Umass Amherst. I would expect to see you here.

Anyway, MBABoy is right. You are qualified, but unlucky. Hope you can get admission from better school.
