答案是C，可是我覺得D優多了，
因為 C 的during which比 D 囉嗦多了，而且D也沒有改變句意
請教各位戰友的意見

there is的句型很容易造成囉唆，所以盡量少選。
更重要的是....while和still不能並用，因為他們都代表『然而』的意思。
請看longman的解釋：
still, adv
in spite of what has just been said or done .

C:
during which補充說明colonial period這個時期的情況，是很清楚的表達方式。

在死亡率之後? 邏輯上不通!

另外, 個人覺得 A 用 but 取代although來做為兩句子的對等, 在句意上是有差別的!

(A) 沒有交代是什麼的死亡率(全體,男人,女人,大人,嬰兒),在 after ... mortality rate 之後突然蹦出 life expectancy, children, 看似相關,其實是天外飛來一筆. => 不可選
(B) even though 沒有動詞 => 刪除
(C) although 副詞子句連接詞, 後面接主要子句 as late as 19th 1/3 died before 6. as late as 前面的 as 副詞, 後面的 as 介係詞.
(D) 兩個連接詞 while, still; there be 少選 => 刪除
(E) life expectancy 跟 mortality rate 是不一樣的吧, 怎麼 improve? => 刪除
=> (C)
