答案是(A)，請問各位高手(B)為何不對？

1.選項A→Many environmentalists say that rich nations have joined this dowward slide toward more lax attitudes about pollution.現在完成式，表動作從過去持續到現在。
2.如果選B→Many environmentalists say that rich nations join this dowward slide toward more lax attitudes about pollution.
join用現在簡單式，現在簡單式用在現在的事實，動作；習慣性動作；敘述不變的真理事實，這題應該是現在的事實，動作。翻譯上說的通，不過會與原本的A選項造成歧意...而原本A選項句意也沒錯，就沒必要來選B了
3.至於in order to maintain competitiveness
改成for maintaining competitiveness不知道是否也是有問題....

多謝回覆！等了好久，總算有高手回覆了。後來想想，的確 A 和 B 的文法都沒有錯，但 A 既然是原題，則應貼近題意。B 改變了題意...

至於 for maintaining competitiveness 文法上是沒有錯的。
