學校選擇: Georgetown vs BU FT MBA

BU確確實實是我的第一志願
但是我今天收到GT的admission
然後仔細了研究一番
如果我要說BU哪裡不好
就是我要focus的marketing對她們來說並不是強項
所以我才很掙扎說
我到底該怎麼選擇
可否請各位有前輩、大哥大大、大姊大大幫忙我分析一下mt16

去BU吧...第一..他是你的第一志願
第二...喬治城雖然很有名..但是他的PROGRAM並不特別
甚至沒有所謂的CONCENTRATION..所以MKT也不會好到哪裡去的..

去BW註冊帳號(free charge)就可以查到上述的資訊了
特別是graduate comments部分, 已畢業的人評論比較沒顧忌, 很有參考價值 :)

就各方資訊看來, marketing都不是這兩間學校的強項
BU我不大清楚, GT最好的是Finance和General Management
而Finance就業集中在banking, 而非企業內的corporate finance
學校和校友本身也非常強調它的international exposure和4 modules in a year的設計

GT本身在法,政, 外交領域超強 (這跟在DC有很大的地緣關係)
即使是唸MBA, 也可以修相關的joint degree
MBA/JD (Juris Doctor/Doctor of Jurisprudence)
MBA/MD (Doctor of Medicine) --> GT有醫學院
MBA/MPP (Master of Public Policy)
MBA/MS (Physics)
MBA/MSFS (Master of Science in Foreign Service)
對公領域有興趣的人應該會很有收穫

我問過了一個現職學生,一個畢業校友
兩個都跟我說喬治城沒有concentration...
有一個人跟我說他在找工作的時候特別吃力
因為學校的diploma上面根本沒有註明你在學什麼
課程也沒有替學生做一定的規劃
你要三思唷
不過以喬治城的名氣..應該不難找工作..但是比要學東西...請自己再多打聽打聽吧

第一次聽到沒有concentration的學校

雖然我自己還在思考哪間學校
不過必須回覆一下

很多學校是沒有所謂的concentration的
更不會在畢業證書上加註concentration
都是寫上MBA in general management

BU也是這個case,
要是我沒記錯的話, NYU也是
NYU可以選上三個所謂的concentration
但是畢業證書上還是MBA general mangement

所謂的concentration or focus對一些學校來說只是electives跟未來出路的分類
以我申請的學校來說，8所裡有4所是沒有concentration的

如果有誤請大家指正 :)

你在學什麼課程也沒有替學生做一定的規劃
不過以喬治城的名氣..應該不難找工作..但是比要學東西...請自己再多打聽打聽吧

Back to school topic.

GT的課程設計是一學年四個module
第一年全部必修, 第二年全部選修
學校會列出各領域底下的選修, 學生可依個人需求為自己量身打造課程表
至於自己的需求是什麼? 申請過MBA的人應該都要很清楚了
學校本身在給Ad後就會指派current student as mentor
career center也有consultant可以提供協助

無論在什麼地方求學, 就算是Top 5, 都是師父領進門修行在個人
Top50的師資水平都是很不錯的
剩下的就是自己的努力和規劃
所以GT這樣看似留白的設計實際上給了學生最大的自由作想做的事

當然, 自由並不適合每一個人
對於還不確定方向的人, 也許自由反倒讓人陷入一片茫然
但對於方向已經很明顯的人, you don't have to waste your time.
