用the也不對吧!
那個Big Apple都大寫專有名詞了，為何要用定冠詞，定冠詞the是對普通名詞加以限定的一種冠詞，是不能用專有名詞上的。
就像English是專有名詞，有人用I speak the English嗎??
我覺得整句應該是
New York City,"Big Apple”, is the largest city in the United States and has been the gateway location for repeated waves of Immigrants.
Big Apple放在New York city後做同位語，兩邊用逗點隔開。

或是改成這樣也行:
New York City (which is/are) called "Big Apple” is the largest city in the United States and has been the gateway location for repeated waves of Immigrants.
關代省略連動詞一起省略，留下被動分詞called形成分詞句構。用被動是因為紐約市被稱為大蘋果，是被人稱的。紐約市不會自己稱自己為大蘋果。
所以本題完全沒正確答案才對。
