可是我覺得這一題應該是B....

我想就先從A選項哪裡不好說起好了....

Altough improved efficiency in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, it will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowing prices, thereby boosting consumption.

我想A選項有兩個致命傷，一個是『by increasing supply and lowing prices』，另外一個是『thereby boosting consumption』....

我想大家應該都同意主要子句中的『it』指代的是『improved efficiency』吧....

如果是如此，那主要子句的句意就變的很怪了....『improved efficiency will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowing prices』....意思是『改善了的效率將會刺激需求藉由增加供給以及降低價格』....

我想這句最大的敗筆就在於『improved efficiency』不是人，應該不能使用手段方法....而『by』所帶出來的介係詞片語表達的正是手段方法....

就算要說『improved efficiency』可以使用手段方法好了....我相信『increase supply』跟『low price』應該也不是它所能使用的手段方法....所以，我覺得A選項的句意怪異....

另外一個我覺得A選項不好的地方是『thereby boosting consumption』....

通常看到『thereby Ving ......』都會認為應該是『and thereby V ......』簡化而成的....所以，做這件事情的人應該是前方的主詞....

所以整句話應該可以完整寫成『improved efficiency will stimulate demand by increasing supply and lowing prices, and thereby improved efficiency will boost consumption.』

意思就是『改善了的效率將會刺激需求藉由增加供給以及降低價格，而且改善了的效率將會因此大大刺激消費。』

這樣的句意也有些怪異吧....『improved efficiency』是要如何『boost comsumption』呢？

相較之下，我覺得B選項的句意就順暢很多....『Altough improved efficiency in converting harvested trees into wood products may reduce harvest rates, demand will be stimulated beacuse of increasing supply and lowering prices, which boost consumption.』

先來說一下大家一致的質疑，就是『which』指誰？

這裡就句意來看，『which』指的應該是前面的『increasing supply and lowering prices』....因為有兩件事，所以『boost』用的是複數....

B選項的意思是『雖然改善的效率......，但是需求將會被刺激因為不斷增加的供給以及不斷降低的價格，這兩件事大大刺激消費。』

我想在句意上，B選項比起A選項更能清楚表達....也因此我覺得B選項比較好....

根據以上大大的詳解，對於句意來說，似乎b解比較好
但是，從OG到GWD對於which的用法，好像which沒有指代過事情ㄟ
後來想想，which若只修飾lowering prices句意上似乎也通ㄟ
較低的價格帶動消費～～

還是覺得(A)好，因為(A)很平衡，如果考慮主詞一致性的問題的話，(B)的主詞有亂移轉的毛病。

如果把原句簡化如下，可以很清楚看出說明improved efficiency造成的兩個相反作用：
Although improved efficiency...may reduce harvert rates, it will stimulate demand...

至於thereby boosting comsumption， 因為thereby: by means that (藉此)(→抄莫老的筆記)，應該就是指藉著上句話所說的供給增加、價格降低，會進一步boost comsumption，句意上並沒有問題。

至於(B), 除了把主要子句的主詞移轉成demand這個毛病，which到底是代lowering prices還是代increasing supply and lowering prices,會造成歧意

(B) 的句意似乎比較合理. beacuse of 後面其實是接普通名詞(supply and prices), 並不是動作(increasing and lowering),所以沒有問題,which 如果依句意去代最接近的名詞,也只好是 increasing supply and lowering prices 囉!
