一直無法釋懷為何 of 可以這樣單獨帶著介詞短語存在,況且with/of是介詞,connected是分詞要怎麼平行呢??

我覺得 connected要修飾的應該是each, 強調600 rooms由a complex regional system of roads連結, 所以選B, 省略了which is.
至於其他的選項
A. 缺少連結詞, and were, 會造成句子中有兩個動詞
B. 正確
C. of前面沒有逗號, 就變成修飾structures而不是scale, 且each that的句型怪異, each of which 才是比較好的用法, 再說had been的時態表示room早在settlement were built之前就已經連結, 句意說不過去.
D. of前面沒有逗號, 就變成修飾structures而不是scale, with each用and連結, 但前面沒有同樣的結構,不平衡

若each是room的話,通常OG不是都會把each放在逗號後面,變成..., of up to 600 rooms, each connected by.... ????

在仔細的想了想,有沒有可能是下面這種情況?

... on a spectacular scale with more than 75 carefully engineered structures, (which were) of up to 600 rooms each (<-- sturcture), (which were) connected by a complex regional system of roads.

兩個which都指structures

那with more than 75 carefully engineered structures 要放在哪裡?

還有為什麼是600 rooms each, connected....
不是600 rooms, each connected....?

是不是 each of up to 600 rooms 的倒裝阿? 為了要讓connected 後的分詞構句可以接倒一個正確的修飾對象?

如果是修飾structures, 那麼each就應該指structure, connected修飾each
或是跟著a scale of修飾settlements, 所以each指settlements呢??

不知有無定論, 這題做了好幾次還是會選錯

逗點中間是插句 (of up to 600 rooms each 補充說明 structures),把它去掉就看到主要句子.
這樣 connected 是主要結構的一部份, i.e. 分詞修飾 structures.

這題看討論看了好久...還是不太懂

莫北北上課的時候說 of up to 600 rooms each 修飾 settlements，
因為 each 後面省略 settlement，所以不是修飾 structures。

connected by 的分詞片語也是修飾 each(settlement)
這樣 of up to 600 rooms each 倒底是修飾誰呢？

莫北北的原句寫出來是這樣：
