主句動詞：reveal
賓語從句：that creature of the seabed were...
所以，賓語從句的主語是creature of the seabed

reveal that S+V說明一份研究透露出什麼內容，用that子句將抽象名詞"研究"具體化
但reveal後面直接放creatures of seabed就改變了句意

總之，就是在解釋選項D和E的結構為什麼錯啦!

請問一下(A)與(C)哪裏錯了呢？

啊!原來如此. 這題考Ving 動名詞 vs 現在分詞
Ving 當動名詞=名詞,可作主詞,受詞;
Ving 當現在分詞:1.強調動作持續進行, 2.由關係代名詞省略形成(i.e.=which be+Ving, 其中 which be 省略, 剩下 Ving 表主動)

(A) 1. suffering from dwindling food supplies 把修飾作用的現在分詞 dwindling 拿掉,它的意思其實是 suffering from food supplies, 而句子想表達的是 suffering from dwindling (of food supplies), 這下子 dwindling 是動名詞,當名詞用,作 suffering 的受詞; 2. increasing sea surface temperatures 海面溫度持續不斷上升,是不合邏輯的.
(C) 1. 改變句意, dwindling 原來在主要結構,這裡移到次要結構之後,變成非主要句意, 2. possibly 雙向修飾,可解為 {which were dwindling possibly} as a result of 或 which were dwindling {possibly as a result of ...}
(D) (E) creatures 從主詞變成受詞 => 改變句意.

之前選 (A) 是基於簡潔,但是覺得有點怪怪 (dwindling food supplies?); 唉!人性弱點必需克服.在適性測驗時,這題錯了就與高分絕緣了.

關於這題的一些看法：

(A) 我覺得最大的問題應該是在不可以用participle(resulting from)，會造成logical predication上的問題(彷彿是在形容A study)。關於resulting from與as a result of的差異，可參考OG(VR)113的解釋。

(C) dwindling是重要的訊息，而非附加訊息，光是suffering because of food supplies句意並不完整，因為food supplies並不會讓人suffering，而是dwindling food supplies才會讓人suffering。重要的訊息應該用restrictive cluase(... supplies that ...)，而非non-restrctive clause(... supplies, which ...)。關於restrictive cluase與non-restrctive clause的差異，可參考OG(11)7的解釋。

另外，根據我的老外家教及OG(11)25的解釋，用because來連結cause-effect是最簡單常用的作法。

通常有resulting from以及as a result of出現的選項
as a result of通常對!因為ETS老是會用resulting from
本身result的狀態以及from後面加的結果來騙人!

看到resulting要小心，因為他一定要有明顯的主體去執行resulting!!
A選項的逗號 + resulting 一看就知道錯了! C選項的",which"非限定
代表可以拿掉不影響句意，可是拿掉句意就不完整了。錯!

今天再讀,我想我的結論是錯的

這兩個選項在於 result from 與 as a result 的修飾對象不同,造成句意的邏輯取捨

事實上,兩個片語 ,意思差不多,最大的差別在於 一個是動詞 一個是名詞
Form oxford
-result from:to happen because of sth else that happened first
-as a result:a thing that is caused or produced because of sth else

(A)當動詞變成動名詞修飾片語,它是修飾前一子句
因此resulting from........ modify a study of.........不合邏輯

(B)名詞的修飾片語,修飾的是最靠近它的名詞
因此as a result of.........modify dwindling

That is the sentence mean.

哈!學H大大，我今天在看到這題，我覺得我的理解又不一樣了。

At first.
resulting from不行是因為 分詞構句優先修飾前句主詞。
因為分詞構句是and V的省略，所以套回去可能修飾到creature或a study。

而as a result of 在此OK是因為，它也是分詞構句省略(being)
如上所說，套回去往前找...注意!! 看到because 連接詞
因此變成是修飾 food supply，這樣就通了。

Secondly
(A)選項的suffer from N用法沒有問題，問題應該就是出在resulting
以及 dwindling(-ed)及increasing(-ed)身上。
