還有D選的解答: having… 囉嗦??????我是覺得與正確選項相比other gasses that have比having更準確修飾other gasses, 而having有點模糊,不知道我的看法是否正確,請大牛們指正!

另外D選項
前面未畫線已說了gasoline engines~若用have a comparable size似乎很囉唆..直接of comparable size就好啦..且後面的they有可能修飾diesel engines 或是gasoline engines 不清楚囉

答案 (C) 嗎? carbon dioxide 不可數用 fewer 修飾?

覺得 (B) 比較好也! having 不應作分詞解,如果是分詞,應該寫成 being (implicated 被動式的動詞是 be, 不是 have) 時態不同,為了表態,不用分詞(因為分詞沒有時態). having been: 現在完成式, 已清楚表達時態.

(A) burn as well as emitting 不平衡
(D) (E) 改變句意: carbon dioxide 不見了

查了字典,發現這題考: 1. as well as , 2. 關代限定用法 vs Ving(關代去掉,動詞改成現在分詞)

1. as well as 不是對等連接詞 (i.e. as well as <> and)!
as well as 的正確詞性是(1)從屬連接詞, (2)介係詞 (ref: http://www.bartleby.com/68/92/592.html)
as well as 在逗點後面(i.e.附屬結構)的標準用法是當介係詞.
2. "關代限定用法"跟"關代去掉,動詞改成現在分詞"意義不同!
that 只能代一個名詞,去掉 that 前面的一串都可以當 Ving 的主詞.

(A) 是對的. 1. emitting 的主詞是 Diesel engines, 2. that = gases
(B) 1. as well as 是介係詞,自然不能接動詞, 2. having 可能修飾 gases, 也可能修飾 carbon dioxide gas and ...gases

雖然在這題PP中, 我們知道了as well as 非對等連接詞, 而是(1)從屬連接詞, (2)介係詞 (感謝dibert88 熱心查的資料), 但在OGv11 紫本P238#26 中的解釋, 卻為何說選項(E) 因不平衡而不選呢??

(E) 的確不平衡
as well as 是個蠻特殊的詞,如果依考點來判斷會比較容易過關.
as well as 很喜歡挑戰 and 的地位,如果 and 平衡正確,不選 as well as, 像 OG 這一題 (i.e. 挑戰失敗; as well as 想當 and 就要平衡啊!)
as well as 也可以當連接詞喔!不過不是像 and 這樣的對等連接詞,它是從屬連接詞 (i.e. 有區分主人和僕人的).
PP 這一題出現 and 的選項 (C) (D) 都有致命的錯誤,顯然是來考信心的:不只考平衡,還考 as well as 的詞性!

謝YH32480提出這個問題來比較~~as well as 的應用~

看法分享~
as well as 無法用在"動詞"上的對稱，因為它並"非正統的對等連接詞"
所以一般來說是不可能會出現 V1. as well as V2
但是可用在"名詞"上的對稱 N1. as well as N2. (但焦點在於N1)

＊as well as 可做為介系詞，這時候判斷準則就是"是否有逗號在as well as之前"

例如：OG這題，很明顯的...as well as 是要當對等連接詞使用(無逗號)，可是只能用名詞，所以(e)改成aiding，共用動詞"reduce"，這樣句意完全被破壞
所以ＯＧ才會說，Ｅ缺少may reduce ...and aid的那樣平行結構（因為as well as 在這裡表現不出來）

而本題…是", as well as" 的結構，屬介系詞，故用emitting 來表達！！

所以as well as = and 是非常非常不妥的
碰到 名詞 as well as 名詞 還混的過去
碰到 動詞 as well as 動詞 肯定考倒一票人

因此，as well as = and 這個觀念要先排除掉!
要先對自己洗腦，把as well as = and的觀念洗掉！

文法上，優先把as well as 當成介系詞片語 來對待

句意上，優先把as well as 想成 in addition to

老是把as well as 想成連接詞、想成and，肯定一團亂，不論是文法，還是句意都會亂掉
