(A) 有一個小錯誤: a ratio of... 應該限定 --> the ratio of...
另外 compared 可能修飾 workers (省略 who were), 或者 CEO's (過去分詞片語修飾前一子句).兩個都不能跟 ratio 比較.

(B) in 1980 應該用過去式 --> compared

(C) ...CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared 42 times their pay...
as: 關係代名詞主格 (= 419 times the pay), 所以 compared 是過去式 (in 1908)

消化了在 GWD1-Q7 的討論,發現 compare 在 (C) 必需是被動才合理,因為 compare 及物和不及物用法的意思不一樣 (i.e. as 應該是連接詞),而且也解決了 their 指代的問題.
整理一下:
(A) compared 過去分詞,修飾前面子句,主詞是 CEO's => CEO 和 ratio 比較不同類
(B) 1. in 1980 有修飾歧異:如果修飾整個次要結構,應該用過去式; 2. compare 作不及物動詞意思是"匹敵,相當",而 419 倍和 42 倍相差太懸殊,稱不上互相"匹敵".
(C) as 作連接詞,依句意跟受詞比較,省略 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers 為連接詞子句的主詞.這樣一來, their 因對稱結構很清楚地指代 blue-collar workers. ratio 前面的逗點使得 1980 清楚地修飾這個次要結構,也免了時態的問題.
(D) (E) CEO's 主詞變受詞,改變句意.
