所以 all the North American Great Lakes 是跟 Lake Baikal (主詞 = which) 比較.
這樣子的話, more than... 是修飾前面插句,主詞 which (= Lake Baikal).

也可以這樣看(比較容易懂,但不是100%正確):

這樣 more than... 是形容詞片語;說不是100%正確,因為 GMAT 是不同意省略 which is 來解釋的.

1. 請問一下,原題以下面這個角度來解釋
Lake Baikal holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, (which is) more than all the North American Great Lakes combined
如果which is不省略,是否會造成句意上的混淆?
從GMAT的思路來說,which通常指代最接近它的一個名詞,也就是water,
那句意就變成world's fresh water比North American Great Lakers combied還多??
還是which可以指代整個名詞組(Ex: 20 percent of the worlds water),但顯然這個句意仍是有點奇怪.

又如果用分詞結構來補述(GMAT的最愛),則可補充修飾整句的所傳達的概念,是否句意就比用which is 來的清楚而且又符合簡潔原則呢?
=>Lake Baikal holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water(這裡敘述的是Lake的水量),
more than all the North American Great Lakes combined(補充說明上一句所提到的水量比
全部North American Great Laders合起來的水量還多)

2. 另外有一說法是說more than all the North American Great Lakes combined是同位語結構,
等同於20 percent of the world's fresh water,
請問這樣說法正確嗎?

這題算是綜合型的考題,藏的訊息很多.但也因為考點多,容易找到選項的破綻.
(B) that (= water) 作關代不能用在非限定,像這樣 "N, that" (i.e. that =N 時). 用關代表示要修飾前置詞 water.
這樣的結構, 把 with... 納入主要結構修飾 Lake Baikal 改變句意: With..., ... , Siberia's Lake... (逗點中間是插句)
其實 with... 修飾 Lake Baikal 本身的意思也已經改變: (A) 指 Lake Baikal 裡的水, 用 with 變成世界上的水.
it = water? Lake Baikal?
(C) 主要是 it (= Lake Baikal) 不需要再出現,因為已經有主詞了,指代上沒有問題.
(E) with... 的修飾位置是正確的,不過這樣的改寫不簡潔. 另外, (B) 是介係詞片語納入主要結構,這裡是將形容詞片語納入主要結構,同樣改變句意: More than..., Siberia's Lake Baikal, ..., holds...

另外，請問(A) More than 300 rivers drain into Siberia's Lake Baikal, which holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, more than all the North American Great Lakes combined. 的動詞是那個？一時之間找不到動詞，越看越迷惑....

(D)的話主要就是錯在which指代前一句嗎？
(E)的話，除了改寫不簡潔，還有其他修辭上的錯誤嗎？
