That time of year has started! USC admission is already on the road looking for perspective students for next year. The class of 2009 is finishing up their first quarter, and the class of 2008 is.... well, a lot less stressed compared to the same time last year ^^"

this is Paul. What sort of companies are attracted to USC for recuriting in your experience?

Hi Paul:

It's hard to list all companies that have recruited in USC for the past year. Generally, it covers a variety of industries and functions. If you are interested in Hi-tech related companies. Google, Yahoo, Cisco, Qualcomm, Intel, etc have all had or will have on-campus recruiting, both for internship and full-time positions. That being said, I would say 40% or more students didn't get their internship/full-time offer via on-campus recruiting. The alumni network is also a great resource to tap in for unadvertised positions in various companies.

I have some guestions regarding the Center for Global Logisitics and Supply Chain at Marshall which need your clarification. Is it the same as Center for Global Distribution and Supply Chain? Also, does it offer opportunities for MBA students to participate in its research?

Hi Paul,

As Mark said, it's hard to list all companies coming to Marshall. They are quite diverse in respect of industries and functions.

However, I try to list some companies helding presentations or interviews in Marshall this year till today. Hope this will give you a generall picture. (Note: these are just some rough datas so far, there will be more coming.)

Financial: BOA, UBS, AIG, Bear Sterns, Credit Suisse, Leman Brothers(LB didn't directly come to Marshall, but they hold a presentation in LA and invited Marshall students)

Accounting: PWC, KPMG, Deloitte, E&Y

High-tech: Cisco, IBM, Yahoo, Google, Apple, Intel, HP

Consulting: Mckinsey Germany, BAH, Deloitte, Hitachi, BCG, Bain (BCG and Bain didn't come, but they invited Marshall students to apply)

Marketing: J&J, Clorox, Mattel, Nestle, Duty Free Stores

Entertainment: Disney, NBC Universal, Activison

Other: Amgen, Fedex, Toyota, Chevron, Honeywell, GE, AT&T...

I think the Center for Global Logisitics and Supply Chain and the Center for Global Distribution and Supply Chain are the same thing.

The Center for Global Logisitics and Supply Chain condusts logistics and supply chain management reaearches and provides operation management courses.

感謝Mark的開帖，我是今年USC Marshall 一年級的學生，如果大家對Marshall有任何的問題都歡迎提出，我和Mark以及其他台灣同學會盡力回答。另外我們預計12月下旬在台北舉辦說明會，時間地點將另行公佈，歡迎大家踴躍參加。

首先我想簡單介紹Marshall 的一些特色：

1) Diverse Enviroment

Marshall 學生來自各行各業，背景相當多元，除了常見的finance, consulting, marketing, high-tech之外，我們的同學有軍人，醫生，老師，演員，作家，體育選手等等，藉由和不同背景的同學互相交流學習，拓展對各產業的了解和視野。

課程的選擇和社團也是非常多元，Marshall 提供許多concentration，也允許學生修其他的學院的課，每個人可以根據需求做選擇。活動則是多到數不清，舉凡Mixer，Party，Site Vist，Roundtable，Conference，Case Competition，Speaker，Workshop，Trip，幾乎每天都有，不怕你不參加，只怕你沒時間參加。

LA也是相當多元的城市，USC位於LA市中心，到哪裡都很方便，不管你想吃哪國料理，逛哪國超市，這邊都找的到；往西就是Hollywood，Beverly Hills，Santa Monica，往東可到華人區，outlets甚至Vegas，往北可到Universal Studio，Magic Mountain，往南則是Disney，Long Beach，San Diego，在LA的生活絕對多采多姿。

2) PRIME

Marshall 的Pacific Rim Education Program(PRIME)是各大Business School此類international program的濫觴。學生在4th quarter 選定一個國家的特定公司，在學期中針對該國家和該公司做研究，並在學期結束後前往該公司做consulting project的簡報，除了學習實際的案例，也同時學習不同文化的差異。

3) Trojan Network

USC以及Marshall 校友的向心力非常強，從football game及賽前tailgate的瘋狂程度可略知一二。校友不時邀請自己的公司回Marshall做簡報，並時常参與roundtable或pannel分享經驗。透過alumni database搜尋，可以找到在自己有興趣的公司工作的校友，並且可以和他們進行informational interview，alumni非常樂意幫助學弟妹進入自己的公司。除了在加州和美國，Marshall 和USC在亞洲的network也是相當強大，USC在台北，香港，東京設有海外辦事處提供校友和學生協助，在每期的電子報都可以看到校友提供的工作機會。

hi，我有個 essay 疑問，能否請各位前輩指點一下？

1) Describe in a brief essay (do not exceed 250 words per section - 750 words maximum):
a) your post-MBA short-term goals (immediately after graduation),
b) your post-MBA long-term goals (3-5 years after graduation), and
c) how your professional experience, when combined with an MBA degree, will enable you to achieve these goals.

是要a，b，c 分開各寫 250 字嗎？
還是可以合在一起寫 750 字，然後有所側重？

這應該是指abc每個section各不超過250字，然後總共不超過750字，
其實每個section超過一些沒關係，通常是規定字數上下10%都屬接受範圍。

Dear Aaron,

For what positions do the Marshall students usually apply in Big Four? Auditor (Auditing) or Financial advisor (M&A) or others?
Do the students who apply for a job in Big Four usually concentrate in Finance or Accounting?

If you are interested in auditing and accounting related careers, Big Four usually hire our accounting students (Macc) for those positions. Marshall MBA students usually go into the consulting/advisor arms of Big Four

我記得去年我申請時，USC的財力證明是必須先開立的並連同application一併附上。
另外，關於adcom都不回信的事情，去年我也是這樣~~我們有同學後來就打電話去adcom office，據說是因為申請的文件太多，
所以如果你的問題是關於申請的status，可能他們還沒時間處理。
建議你如果真的相當重要的問題，可以打電話來詢問。
我去年要跟學校約campus interview，結果學校也一直沒回我信，直到我人已經到了美國visit，正要從chicago前往LA
他們才願意給我interview的機會，我大概寄了三封信吧!
Show your passion!但是也不要太aggressive，我覺得Adcom喜歡熱情的人，我們的同學都是如此，
就如同Arron與Mark學長。

Before I answer this, let me explain the consulting we are talking about. Consulting is of course a broad term. Among MBAs, consulting usually refers to Management/Strategy Consulting, which takes a "big picture" view of business, such as offering advice to "C-level" managers. The big global firms are McKinsey, BCG, Bain, AT Kearney, etc. But, there are also very respectable boutique firms that no one in Taiwan has heard about and who have a thriving practice. Even within this industry, there is an heirarchy.

The difference between these strategy firms vs. Big-4 firms (DTT, EY, KPMG, PwC) is that the big-4 firms offer more business process advice, how to streamline/improve operations. Some people from the big-4 firms may disagree, but for the most part that's how the industry is viewed.

There is also IT consulting. Some names that come to mind: IBM, EDS, JD Power, SAP, Oracle, etc., but for the most part they are very technical consulting and don't involve big-picture strategy.

Hi Taiger，

學校的規定如同jasmine提到的，是申請的時候要一併寄出，
但據我的了解是可以等被錄取了再補寄就可以，至少我去年是這樣做的。
