但看到板上各個學校的current students都po文鼓勵大家發問
身為Emory(Goizueta)的學生當然輸人不輸陣...唸書空檔也硬是上來po一下

因為我想要concentrate在real estate financing
那天在看你們學校網站時看到你們的emergin topics裡剛好有real estate
但又苦於無人可問．．．唉
剛好看到你的po文，

想請教你一些問題
1.emory的不動產課程如何?因為很少聽到有關emory的不動產的事(可能自己見聞不夠)
2.我累積工作經驗3年，工作是外商不動產顧問公司的不動產估價師，GMAT710，GPA2.98，TOEFL還在拚，打算申請第二輪，但TOEFL若中箭可能就第三輪了，我看到你們平均年資是5年...差了2年有點多...台灣學生的背景都如何呀?
3.有台生在那唸一年制的嗎?成效如何?因為我的朋友一直叫我不要唸一年的，雖然課程上的都一樣，但感覺一年好像英文進步有限什麼的?但是短期來講成本相對較低...可以在這部分給我一些意見嗎?

Hi Matt,

1. Emory is very dedicated to real estate and health care arenas. Emory provides specialized courses and strives to attract more recruiters in these arenas. Some of my classmates landed their jobs in real esate. If you need to get in touch with them, feel free to let me know.

2. I would say the typical year of experience is 3-5 years. 5 years average comes from few students with 10+ years experience.

3. Please reach me if you have any question regarding one-year program. Taiwanese students are not aware of this option, as they concern the length of the program may not well equip themselves for future career, which is not always true. It depends on your background and your goals. It's specifically designed for people who had business education AND do not intend to switch their career. As you mention, the cost side of the program is pretty impressive. (Let's not multiply the cost by 2 and compare it with two year program - it does not make sense because most of you don't need 2 one-year program, right? ;) )

We have an Taiwanese alumna from one-year back in 2001. I will be the best person to anwser your question as I just finished one-year program this May. I am open to any of your questions, especially the result and the "effectiveness" of the program.

You can take public transportation to Emory Campus, here is the link for your information.

There is plenty of information on the Emory U. official web site for you to research for maps or hotels. I would suggest you to arrive at Atlanta at least one day before your campus interview.

我想問一下在申請 Emory的過程中，有什麼地方是必須要特別注意的嗎?
我預計這一二天就Submit線上application form

關於interview我是選擇 phone interview因為是非美國學生
但為何我有在傷咖上看到有人是與Emory的officer在凱悅面試，所以我想請問一下，你們之前是如何進行的?

另外關於申請表格上要填是否申請其他的學校，想問一下這是必要的嗎?

還有，我想問一下one-year的program畢業後，會不會因為沒有intern所以比two-year的學生來說，工作機會較少?(我打算找IB或是consulting的工作)

In some cases (like mine), the internship is good to have; in some others, you feel that it's a necessity.

Let's talk about the realities:

1. The recruiter's perception: In the States, recruiters are more neutral toward one-years - they don't see a big difference, especially if you are not switching career. During the interview, tell them your story and your rationale. You can turn around, diffentiate yourself and even create a pretty positive impression. I know this is the biggest concern for many Taiwanese applicants, but I would not worry about this.

2. Job search process: Two-years have more job search experience, because they have gone through this process in first year. But the fundalmental issue is - as an international it takes efforts to "learn" how to get a job in a new country. Do you have a plan? Do you know what you are to pursue specifically? There is no time for you to wonder. Here is the timeline: Emory one-years start the school in May. During May and August, we finish the classes two-years have done in their first-year. Then we have one-month break. After the break, in September we are supposed to submit resumes and have interviews! (especially for IB and consulting guys) So what should we do during the break? Get very prepared for the recruiting season starting in September. I see this a very critical reality.

3. You can have your own internship with one-year program. I had mine after graduation. One of my local classmate had his during the one-month break between summer and fall semester.

This is based on my personal experience as a non career switcher seeking consulting/strategy/marketing opportunities in the States.

The best way to evaluate your fit for this program is to speak with alumni and current students.

Your last question is "unanswerable". It's very difficult to generalize the advantage/disadvantage of joining *** program/school, because it all depends on individual cases.

Sorry this is not the anwser you are looking for. Having read so many similar questions, I understand that we all want a "guarantee" when pursuing a uncertain future. But it is just impossible to make a statement like that.
I also have friends in different schools & programs (MS, MBA, 1-yr, 2-yr, you name it). Some got jobs, Some didn't. Why? I have no anwser.

Thank you for initiating these interesting questions.

I am pretty sure I might get similar number of interviews from similar types of companies. The reason is my resume does not change dramatically - I have the three-year experience before MBA and an MBA from Emory.

I might articulate myself better during interviews, so my chance to succeed in interviews might be higher. But again, this is really up to you. If you want to invest more time to make sure you will land a job in another country, I suggest you take language course BEFORE your MBA. (But securing a job is more than speaking perfect English!!!) Do make a solid plan for the job search.

I might get a job earlier if I opted for two-year route. But this is really not important. Everyone gets job at the end of the day!

What do you mean by 畢業學歷有差? I have to check my diploma then... XD

Alright, I don't want to recommend one-year program to everyone. It's NOT for everyone. I did it and I like it a lot. But I am not sure if that's for you.
