USC Marshall First Year Taking Questions.

I'm a first year student at USC Marshall School of Business and I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have about USC, Marshall School of Business, living in LA, etc.

Regarding to my application experience, I applied 3 schools in 2004, including UCLA, USC and RSM (in Holland). Fortunatley, I got admissions from all of them eventually. So shoot me questions and I'd be happy to be helpful here. :D

Are you in the full-time MBA program now?
I am applying Marshall's PhD program this year. I just mailed out my application and now I could do nothing but cross my fingers.

How do you think the environment and safty around USC?
Is it possible to study there without getting a car?

I am a MBA.PM student since I am currently working for a sofwtare company in L.A. I have resided and worked in L.A. for almost 3 years.

As regarding to your questions, please see my reply below.

1. Environment and safty issues:
USC is located is the old downtown area of L.A. General speaking, it is not a good and disrable area to live in. However, within/nearby campus, I think the safty is okay unless you need to stay around the school until very late at nights. At nights, it is better to make sure you are not alone walking on the streets. Get USC bus to give you a ride if necessary. The university offers such service.

2. Car:
LA is a wide-spreaded city. I would not say it is impossible to live here without a car. However, it would be very difficult to run some personal errands when needed. So getting a car is highly recommended.
