stupidgirl \$m[1]:Allenr大哥~我來搶頭香~請問~你在申請過程中所認識的Ross Business School與你現在體驗中的Ross Business School有什麼不同處? 唸到目前為止你最大的收穫是什麼呢?
That is a good question.
Honestly, however, there is no difference between my impression to Ross and the true exprience here in it. :p
Concisely, I would say that generally Ross students are:
Practical, down to the earth, energetic, straight-forward, and truly well-rounded.
Consequently, the education policy of our school is designed to enhance the characteristics mentioned above, and here are some examples:
1. The UNIQUE MAP program -- sending MBA1s to work on real projects, from USA to Amazon (the jungle, not the dot com), from Fortune 100 to start-ups, from the evil empire (M$) to non-profit. Students spend whole 7 weeks on their particular projects, leveraging what they just learned from the core courses, and thus make REAL IMPACTs to the organization they work for -- most of the time, the projects would become real business manuveurs.
2. Wolverine Venture Fund: A student-run venture capital fund, real money to invest in real project, and there are successful IPOs from the portfolio already.
3. Courses designed with pragmatism like the Private Equity Finance course – Rather than computing numbers or playing with the formulas, the students are asked to study the current market, pick up target buy-outs, and make M&A proposals, and then propose to the real Private Equity shops. Once the proposal get accepted by the shops, students will even get Financial reward, and last year students got 100k USD in this class!
4. The WSJ ranking, which reflects the recruiters’ views, ALWAYS compliments Ross MBAs as “productive talents WITHOUT attitudes,” and thus ranks Ross higher than the formidable HSWK.
5. Who likes us most? GE, 3M, M$, and others who appreciate not only superior intelligence but also inborn action-takers.
Furthermore, Ross believes that the core courses are the most important courses for EVERY student. Therefore, unlike most other top schools, the Ace professors in Ross actually teach the core courses for MBA1s. Believe me, that makes a huge difference! We have black belt (6 sigma) students taking core statistic class; a bunch of CFAs took core Finance, and respected marketers like me taking core marketing. The fact is – the more you know before you stepping into the class, the MUCH more you take away from the class. And many of those who waived the core courses are really regretful for that.
As to my biggest take-away so far, it is definitely friendship. I dare say that people from the mid-west are usually more genial and warm than those from New England and more serious and practical than those from the West coast, and thus, naturally, the mid-west students are simply of better potential to be the friends you can trust without a heartbeat.
